The years of early childhood can be confusing, but sometimes we enjoy those times. But the one thing that got me was our first major scare. Sometimes it makes us want to laugh, or throw up both our hands! And that is what little ol' Tommy did, in Lexington Kentucky.
Tommy was a 10 year old who loved the great outdoors, and the rest of the kids in school called him, "Tommy Boy", because that is what his father called him. Tommy loved fishing, and hiking, and most of all, he loved scary stories around the campfire. His father told him a story from his early childhood, and boy was it horrific!
In the year of 1966,
His father, Nick, was a bit younger than his son, and his father before Nick was a pastor. His father was gentle as a lizard, but Nick had no friends though, so he decided to find one who really understands. But as he went into the woods near his father's house, he found a cat. It was white and had a thin build, with pink eyes, but the slit pupils are red. Nick couldn't figure out why, it's eyes might be infected. He checked and knew it was male.
Nick brought the cat to his father, who saw the cat and held his cross to kiss it oh, so slowly. The cat began to growl at Nick's father, Nick said,
"Ay, ay , ay! Take it easy now."
Nick brought it inside and the cat calmed down a bit after he took it inside. Nick showed the unusual stray every part of the house. But, as he showed it one of his father's scriptures, it began to back away from the frame, as if in pain. Nick thought this was.. weird. But he thought to himself that, cats do strange things sometimes, like if they climb on trees but never come down, or if they hunt mice and let dogs hunt them, or if they see a bird and pounce on them if they made a single chirp.
Nick finally brought it upstairs and let it sleep in his bed during the windy night. Then, around 4:00 in the morning. The cat did something that Nick hadn't seen in years. The cat began to meow in a way he hadn't heard, but it sounded like a unearthly voice that croaked,
"RedRom, RedRom, RedRom, RedRom..."
It repeated this til Nick got up slowly and kept listening, the cat just looked at him and back at the door. Nick thought it was just the frogs outside, but he heard it again,
"RedRom, RedRom, RedRom, RedRom..."
Nick knew it wasn't frogs... it was his cat that was making that creepy noise! The cat patted and clawed at Nick's bedroom door, wanting to go out. Nick let the cat out, and the cat made it downstairs, still croaking,
"RedRom, RedRom, RedRom, RedRom, RedRom, RedRom..."
Nick knew that it wanted a snack, but the cat didn't want anything, but the large, carving knife in the knife holder. It grabbed it with it's paw and suddenly walked back upstairs on it's hind legs! Nick started to have goosebumps at this point, and followed the cat upstairs into his father's bedroom, still chanting with that eerie voice. Suddenly the voice on that thing grew more intense! Maybe it was scared and wanted to find what monster lurked in Nick's father's closet. But, no.
Then the cat stopped at the door and the door suddenly swung open by itself, Nick watched as the cat grew hyper with the sent of what looked like murder! It's croaking chants turned into yelling, and then Nick's father woke up with a start and the cat lunged at him knife ready, Nick saw this and ran downstairs to call the police, but as cops came, they saw nothing but a bloody mess.
Nick's father came out holding his shoulder, he knew what the cat really was but, didn't tell his son what it was. Maybe he didn't want to upset Nick.
But now, Nick sits with his son around the campfire, stating his usual end of the story.
"But, did you knew now what it was?" Tommy Boy asked.
He told him no, but what he did find was a letter that his father gave him before he died of internal injuries caused by the cat that night. It was crumbled up into a ball, and it reads as follows:
"FEAR IS PAIN, ARISING FROM THE ANTICIPATION OF EVIL..."
